Well, so far I find the Golden Stone and the Webfoot to be a very good traveling or EDC sharpening setup. Both together with the stand and their suede covers weigh as much as the Sharpmaker with the Medium and Fine rods, but is a lot more convenient because there are a lot fewer parts, and the Golden Stone and Webfoot stand on their own, even with the stand which is just used to adjust the angle

On the 27th of June, marks the time that Cliff Stamp transcended this physical plane, to join the Great United Consciousness that connects us all. I made this video some short time before this date, as I wanted something that I could post around this date. It is about the history of the 3-Step Method and Plateau sharpening, and how it is a mix of Western and Eastern sharpening stones and techni

alkali,
Sounds similar to a Hard Arkansas stone (the one right above in grit fineness of the Soft Arkansas) or a Fine Washita stone, which if I remember correctly is a silica type quartz(from Brave AI):

Experiments
I heard sharpening Ti was tricky. I sharpened ceramic utility blades, and the way the material wears. Steel used in knives wears by plastic defomation, and the ceramic utility knives wears by chipping, so a different approach had to be used, which was using the stropping wheel on the Tormek T4 loaded with 1u diamond spray, and then they got to the sharpness I wanted. I am not sure how Ti wears

William,
Interesting. Straightening homogeneous steel blades is difficult and risks breaking them from what I remember. Not sure if there is a safer way to straighten them.

Here is the web address to the old forum, it is up and running just a different web address. You can download it with a tool like wget using Windows Powershell or Linux Terminal Shell. I have a thread on the old forum with the command, although now with AI you can probably get them yourself.

jimmy,
What OS are you using? I think I archived it in Linux, so that would make sense why it hangs up unzipping. Can you try downloading the unzipped version?

So I ordered a Cold Steel Kurkri Machete #97KMS, so I didn't ruin the Cold Steel #35LTC Kurki doing yardwork, and keep it for more knife like things, like camping. I was expecting the #97KMS to be lighter in weight compared to the #35LTC, but they are the exact same weight. The #97KMS blade is an inch longer, at 13", vs 12" for the #35LTC. The weight for both of them individuall

Wow, it took me years, but I finally got my Cold Steel #35LTC Kukri sharp. This is one of my favorite knives, I bought it probably 20+ years ago when they were still sold, as the knife was discontinued in 2003. You can get a thinner, machete version for a tenth of the price that this cost, in the same basic shape, a WWI/M43 Kukri shape, which I like better than the WWII Kukri's, which have

Well, I brought my Cold Steel LTC Khukri from my apartment to my Mothers house to do some yardwork, and it needed sharpening. The only thing that worked was the Spyderco Webfoot 308CBN because of the compound curves and angle of the S-style recurve of a Khukri style blade.

Chris S, alkali,
Awesome, thank you so much. I feel the same that it would be a huge loss for the old forum to go. The new forum really didn't take off, but at the very least I think the old forum should stay up. I will be in touch, I am a little busy with a personal thing that I have to get done, and then I will work on keeping the forum up. Thank you both again.

UPDATE:
I just received the Spyderco 308CBN Webfoot as a gift. I can with a plastic stand that allows for a 15* sharpening angle vs the normal 20* of the Golden Stone and the Weboot. Total weight for both sharpening units and stand in their suede leather sheaths is 1.1lbs.
More to come, including pictures and videos, once I get some personal and family business taken care of.
Jason.

I used the 18" Ontario Machete and the 8" Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist in 52100 for some yard work that needed to be done at my Mom's house. The Machete has a more resilient coating than the previous version of the Machete I owned(and easier to clean), which I gifted to my friend so he'd have something for home defense, since he moved to Oregon from New York City, and d

New Knives, and New to You Knives
Ok, I have had the knife for a few days, and I am very happy with it. It came very sharp, as sharp as Spyderco knives come new, and as sharp as I can get a knife. I did some bush trimmng/chopping with it, and cooked lunch with it. I will get pictures and a full review once I have used it more. Just wanted to post a quick update here.

I can probably come up with $100 of my own money to keep the Old Forum and the New Forum up and running, so that just leaves $100 that needs to be raised. I will be happy to take donations, I really think having the Olf Forum and Cliff Stamps work and research is important to the knife community. However, if there is no one t support it, then it won't be available unfortunately.

Well, I got the Bowie Knife bug again, and i am adding to my collections. I just ordered the Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivalist in 52100 steel, and it is basically a Cold Steel Recon Scout, and the Recon Scout is basically a little shorter Cold Steel Trail Master:

The price to keep the forum going if you guys want that option instead of going to a message board, is around $200. I don't have the money, and the site expires in June or July I believe, $200 will keep this site up and running for another 2 years.
