Millscale, There is a thread on the old forum where we all discuss different ways to measure the edge angle. Kyley showed one in the video he just made. Here is a search I did that shows the threads were we were discussing edge angles, and there is always the thread that has the V-Stick Angle finder and also will calculate the edge angle of any edge. It is written in JavaScritp, so all you havby jasonstone20 - Video Reviews

Does anyone EDC an expandable baton? Ryan, I have been using fixed angle sharpeners for several years. I mostly use them for making a mirror edge. I did make a post on the Old Forum talking about using Cliff's Three Step method: I am interested to see how your use of the same stone for the 3-Step work on the fixed angle system. I really like the Venev XXXC and XXC stones for changing the angle/re-profiling.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening

QuoteMillscale I agree that edge retention can be influenced by the wear resistance of the alloy, regardless of the edge thickness, but shouldn't the higher cutting ability and the lower forces applied lower the amount of stress on the very apex, decreasing damage anyway? Ryan, Sucks that it came in that condition. Maybe you can get a partial refund or a discount on another purchase. I haven't really played with S90V a lot, I had a loner for a little while. I do have a knife in M390, which is suppose to have a similar carbide content to S90V. My experience with high carbide steels has been good, they are great for cardboard cutting.by jasonstone20 - Video Reviews

QuoteCliff Stamp es, I watched a program on discovery awhile back in which it showed how the basic axe progressed as the metals got harder and stronger and allowed a refinement of the taper from the crude heavy convex bevels of the softer metals to the very strong steel alloys and the very flat and thin bevels. So the basic idea to minimize cross section is a very old one. Unfortunately on tby jasonstone20 - Video Reviews

Millscale, I think it is just that increased cutting ability from bte thickness doesn't increase edge retention, as does a reduced angle in the micro-bevel, edge angle, and edge finish. It just makes the cut easier to make. I think someone did a video that they took two knives, both with the same edge angle and edge finish, and the only difference was bte thickness. Millscale, Yes, exactly. On some knives the partial grind is not that big, meaning the primary grind is closer to the spine. If I could have my wishes, I would have a full-height hollow grind, but that doesn't seem to be made that often.by jasonstone20 - General

Millscale, I want to get a Centofante because it has a high hollow grind. They are a better all around cutter or as strong as a Full Flat Grind, but they do have their advantages in certain types of cutting along with not thickening up as fast with multiple sharpenings.by jasonstone20 - General
