sal, I wish I could take credit for making this forum, but Kyley Harris (cKc) is the one who made it and paid for the forum. I was going to do it myself, but Kyley beat me to it. He made the forum very quickly, in one day. it would have taken me about a week to set everything up and a month to save the money for the forum. I most likely will take over the payments for the server when the iniby jasonstone20 - General
Ryan, I have been thinking of picking that knife for a while, I just haven't got around to it. Should be a good beater knife. If I recall, they also make a Tanto version. If they do, that is the one I want. The American Tanto is great for EDC and utility use.by jasonstone20 - New Knives, and New to You Knives
After gifting my old Norton Economy 6" SiC stone to a friend, I decided to get a new one. I like to support local businesses as much as possible, but the hardware store I originally purchased my Norton Economy 6" SiC stone was out of them due to the supply issues everyone is currently having. I bought mine on Amazon and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was just like the Craftsmby jasonstone20 - Product Review/Feedback
So for the last few years, I have been looking for an EDC edge for my knives. Normally, I would take the edge up to a Spyderco UF or Dan's Surgical Black Arkansas stone, as I mostly push cut, or so I thought. Kyley Harris (cKc) examined my cutting technique and told me that I am actually zipper cutting. That means that I would benefit from a more coarse edge. On a side note, I have beenby jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Ryan, I have the Spyderco Resilience, which is like a Tenacious but with a 4.25" blade: and now they also have a lightweight version:by jasonstone20 - General
Ryan, I would give hand sharpening with the stone a try, as there is only so much force you can apply with the Edge Pro Apex. I would use a stone holder if you have one, I learned the hard way and ended up with a trip to the Emergency Room and five or six stitches in my hand from holding the Spyderco Tri-Angle rods in my hand and losing focus for a split second.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
cKc, sal: Before I fully understood how to sharpen, I put a 3-beveled edge on my Benchmade 13402 HD Pika G10 knife with my GATCO Edgemate fixed angle system. At the time I thought the edge bevel being sharpened was what I now know is a micro-bevel. I didn't think the stone touched the edge bevel until I did what I am talking about here. I was trying to get an 'Appleseed' grinby jasonstone20 - General
Ryan, Another idea about the 150 stone. Try forming a slurry on the stone before use and see what happens.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Ryan, Or maybe also use the 150 as an XXC finishing stone?by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Ryan, I haven't watched the video yet, but I will first thing. What are you using for a lubricant? Maybe use oil with the 150 if you can.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Cowan, The old site is still up. I have a few copies on USB drives, it is about 25GB per drive/each copy. Because of a naming issue, I could only get it to back up using a *nix filename type. Unless you are using Linux or another *nix type system, I don't know if the files will read on another system.by jasonstone20 - General
sal, I believe so, but Kyley would have to confirm that it is. The knife has been sharpened (I also believe by Cliff) by Bruce Rugg and I have also sharpened it.by jasonstone20 - New Knives, and New to You Knives

QuotecKc (Kyley Harris) I'll start another post and collate some references of my work and the geometries i used on different blades. I literally just asked my friend Bruce Rugg to send my last small AEBL blade to Jason as a gift, or i'd have happily sent you one as a reference to play with. i will link the new post once done. QuoteRyan Nafe One aspect of the Edge Pro that I hadn’t thought of before was the degree to which it highlights the flaws in the factory edge and the primary grind. It’s really interesting. The Benchmade S90V skinning knife has a few inconsistencies in the edge and the primary grind is actually lopsided, one side of the 12 DPS edge is about twice the length of the other, it’s pretty bad. William, Glad to have you on board. Now out of the regulars from the old forum, I think the only people left is ShaperAndMower and Chum that need to join here.by jasonstone20 - General
William, I guess it depends on what is convenient for you. I have a DMT Black XC stone that I use to recondition my Wayne Goddard Norton M Crystolon (SiC)/Norton F India (AlO) just because it is fast, not messy, and I usually have the DMT stone at the ready. SiC Wet/Dry works, and so does the loose grit. The late great Stefan_Wolf had a bunch of videos of him conditioning his stones, using aby jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Ryan, Yeah, I might try out some of those stones. I just got the 13k Sigma II Select 1x6" stone to complete the Sigma II Select stones I bought from Ben Spallos, which included every stone (240, 400, 1k, 1.2k, 3k, 6k, 10k) up to the 10k one. The only one that was missing was the 13k. I also might try out some 1x6" stones that more line up with the 3Step idea of sharpening. The onlyby jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Ryan, Ok, I see what you had in mind there. I had an inexpensive Apogee SiC stone, and it shed grit like crazy, but it wasn't the colloidal type mud, more like the King 220 or Suehiro no. 800 'Chemical' Stone, where it left a streaked grit pattern instead of a shot-peened one. I think the only way to see how the grit pattern is left on the edge is to try it and find out.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening

Ryan, Interesting choice of stones, it will be good to see the results. I really would like to see how a 3step with correct 3step style stones would work on an Edge Pro Apex style sharpener.by jasonstone20 - General Sharpening
Millscale, I like the Sentinal. It is light along with being ergonomic. The lock does have a little lock rock in it, but I never notice it in use. The opening hole is great, that is my favorite one hand opening option other than a Balisong. It has a toothpick and tweezers, along with a lanyard ring, which are all features I like. The clip is tip down, which a lot of people don't like.by jasonstone20 - Video Reviews

Ryan, Awesome set up for hunting. I really like the shotgun! I have a Mossberg 500A Persuader with a Choate side folding stock on it, and a Uncle Mikes sling with a 9 capacity shell holder built in. I also have a Side Saddle (the old screw in kind, not the Velcro, and yes I used lock-tite!) that holds six shells. It is setup for home defense in a 500sqft apartment, so I am using Federal #8 Bby jasonstone20 - Firearms
Ryan, Nice. I'll take anything over 55HRC. Just sometimes with the lower HRC knives you need to use the muddy stones and a hard stone to apex, usually using a micro-bevel and then back beveling, just like Cliff Stamp did with his 3-Step/Plateau sharpening.by jasonstone20 - General
QuoteMillscale CkC, Thank your for the explanation, was very clear and it also reminded me something Cliff said in one of his videos. It is sad indeed that most of the knife manufacturers have no interest in producing blades optimized for cutting, holding a keen edge or reducing cutting strain and instead steel choice is presented as the one and only way to go, only to convince you that your toby jasonstone20 - Video Reviews
