Shot my first sub MOA group with iron sights. 3 shots, carry handle sight and pinned front sight post, 20” chrome line FN barrel. Shots were from 100 yards off a bench with a Maxim polymer rest. I hope I can repeat it, but I’m willing to concede it was just luck. This barrel HATES the 75 grain Hornady match bullets so this was shot with the real deal 77 grain Sierra Match Kings over CFE 223 poby me2 - Firearms
That’s interesting. I haven’t followed steels too much in about 3 years. I had trouble getting S110V as sharp as my other knives and had the same issue with whatever steel Hinderer was using several years ago during Cliff’s Hinderer pass around. I always try to remember I can’t be sure what I’m missing if I can’t get the knives the same sharpness. However, I wasn’t eager to buy a new knife thby me2 - General
No they only had one in stock. The coating was wavy, there was a prominent burr among the last half of the edge, and near the handle whoever ground the edge must have tripped at the grinder, and it was $35. Hard pass. Many machetes are basically blanks anyway. The manufacturer just has to avoid damaging them. I have no idea how hard they are but they are easily filed and sharpen to a ridiculby me2 - General
I checked one of these out at Smokey Mountain Knife Works yesterday. They would be a cool project knife but the one I looked at was pretty wonky out of the box. I’d rather have a heat treated and coated blade blank with a handle than deal with it. I also looked at a Bowie Machete, which was better. I also got to feel the new handles. They don’t feel anything like I thought they would. They’reby me2 - General
I have a rifle I would like to add a cheek piece for using a scope. On my Henry lever action I’d like to add a scope but it’s a little off on cheek alignment with that. I’d never try it by adding wood. I thought about a leather one though. Nothing like a target rifle stock but it would make the decision to add a scope easier. How did you know how high to make it?by me2 - Firearms
While I think Larrin's work is quite valuable overall, I don't really chase steels anymore so I don't find it terribly useful. One of the reasons I stopped messing around with edge holding experiments is I found it didn't really matter what steel I tried, in normal use the chance I'd notice a difference was low. Is there a difference between S110V and CTS BD1 stainless?by me2 - General
My buddy carries a 1911 in one with 2 mags on the other side. He likes it but moves away from both for summer carry.by me2 - Firearms
I’ve got all my categories covered now except one. I am still looking for a major caliber bolt gun, preferably in 308, since I already have the stuff to reload that round. I’ve been doing some bullseye pistol shooting that seems to be going pretty well, just rimfire. The Blackhawk will do double duty here for centerfire bullseye slow fire and long range pistol. I use Alliant 2400 for my downloaded 30-30 cast bullets. It’s a good powder and quite versatile. Coincidentally the downloaded 30-30s are basically equivalent in energy to a moderately heavy 357. I plan to work up some target loads with wad cutters and different powder. I also plan to do exactly what you describe and move toward a 1500 FPS load with a 125 grain JHP. This is the 6.5” barreledby me2 - Firearms
357 Magnum. A 45 Colt would also have been acceptable but I ran across this one at a good price. I zeroed the sights today at 10 yards from a rest. The sight adjustments aren’t marked so that one gripe I have. The sight screws are a bit mushy, so that is another gripe. The final complaint is the front sight is a flat black, which is hard to see on many backgrounds. I marked it orange afby me2 - Firearms
I added a revolver to the collection to cover my long range handgun need. I got it used from a collection being sold off. Date of manufacture was in late 1980 so it should mesh well with my older Marlin rifles. The bluing is a little worn but it otherwise seems in good shape. Hopefully I’ll get to try it this weekend. Revolver ammo is very hard to come by so I’m on the lookout.by me2 - Firearms
I think I’ll regardless them. They have done such a good job for so long I hate to loose them. I’ll have to reshape the Barong blade a little but nothing drastic. Just reform the base to even some things out. It’s considerably narrower than when new thanks to some aggressive belt sander sharpening. I may still get the Tanto machete but it will have to wait a bit. It looks like an easy one toby me2 - General
Its as useful a skill as any other and the knowledge has no intent besides what the user gives it.by me2 - EDC
Oh wait. Evidently I didn’t. I’ll keep it here then. Rehandling is an option. The only reason I thought about it was it would be easy to shape the blade in the as-hardened condition (easy only compared to the usual hardness range for knives). I can do it all with hand tools and don't have to worry about heat. The blades are already soft enough to file, so low 50's HRc I'mby me2 - General
I have. I started a thread in the geometry forum about my plans.by me2 - General
Are your Bowie Machetes the older style with Kraton/Rubber handles or the newer poly handles? If the latter how do you like them? My Barong is the Kraton style and quite comfy if a little loose.by me2 - General
This is something I dabbled with when I was about 10 or 12 but didn’t really know where to get good info. I feel it’s the type of skill that gets frowned upon until someone forgets their safe combination or door key.by me2 - EDC
That should read “side lined.” The Panga has served well for 18 years. The Barong exposed a few myths and taught me about balance and impact point. The handle on the Panga is cracked and the one on the Barong is loose. A big knarly Tanto seems a worthy addition to go with my Kukri machete, which is getting a 6 dps primary bevel and a new edge. Also I broke some reloading tools and need to orby me2 - General
I came across this while trying to find some other parts. Has anyone used it? I kinda need to replace my Panga as the handle is cracked. Would this be a good candidate? This would actually replace both my Panga and my well worn Barong machetes, both of which are slide stones to be recycled into smaller knives.by me2 - General
All the times I went rabbit hunting with my grandfather and uncle I never saw either use a shotgun. My uncle used a stick once and my grandfather carried a 22 revolver. People they brought with them would use shotguns and generally they were the only ones that would kill a rabbit.by me2 - Firearms
I don’t hunt any more but if I did for the game listed it would be my Marlin 336 30-30 with hand loaded LEVERevolution powder and Hornady FTX bullets for deer/hogs. I plan to try some 250 grain round nose too, for a classic load. For squirrels and rabbits it’s a toss up between a stock Remington 870 12 gage and a Marlin 60 22 LR. I’d consider my PA10 in 308 for deer as well as long as it wasby me2 - Firearms
Overall this attempt was much better than last time. I shot the same 22 silhouette competition as before. This time I shot both iron sights and scoped at 58 and 100 yards respectively. Both rifles were my pair of Marlin 60s, one with aftermarket peep sights and the other with a scope. I also tried the iron sight section with my Henry lever action but the sights are still a work in progress.by me2 - Firearms
He’s done as far as I know. He made some pretty good designs but he was very antagonistic to anything more complex than a Scandi grind. He had a 7” blade clip point design with a sharpened top edge that I thought was very nice. It’s only issue was it was too thick. 10 to 12 degrees per side Scandi grind on 3/16” stock. I want to make a copy out of an old blade with reasonable thickness, butby me2 - New Knives, and New to You Knives
I’m still working on final assembly of my edge pro clone. The pocket stone would be a great finishing stone. I’m also considering some Arkansas pocket stones for the same purpose, as well as using my current set of diamond stones. I want to get a set of Congress stones for rebeveling.by me2 - General Sharpening
Interesting. If it keeps the whites white and browns brown it might be worth it.by me2 - General Sharpening
A little too expensive for my taste but I bet they work great. I wonder how similar they are to the Spyderco UF stones?by me2 - General Sharpening
Thank you for saying what I’ve been thinking. I’m very close to relegating diamond stones to the finishing stone realm. They are great for that final edge at whatever grit you choose. They are not great for rebeveling.by me2 - General Sharpening

As a knife guy I feel it’s a requirement to own a Mora, similar to the same feeling about a Buck 110, Spyderco Delica, some sort of Tanto, and one version or another of the Axis lock. I currently do not have a Mora. I found the one I had to be somewhat unwieldy. How thick is the spine on this one?
