Hi Alkali, I don't know the reason for a single asymmetrical swedge, but I can offer some design "theory" that might make sense? When a blade is passing all of the way through something like cardboard the two sharp corners of the spine create friction at the trailing edge of the cut. I learned from Japanese sword design that they would create a continuous swedge on the spine oby sal - General
Hi Chris, Projects are a good thing. Thanx for sharing. We all get to learn. Also, thanx for the "prod" on the un-sharpened blade. Is there a particular model that you think would be worth making a short run with un-sharpened edges? salby sal - General
Hi Chris, Sad to hear. It's tough watching these special people in the knife industry passing. Darrel was a very innovative light in our industry. May he rest in peace. salby sal - General
Nick is right. It does need a video. I was waiting for the CBN version and the 30 degree fixture. My goal for a complete . Also, it's used for serrations just like the Triangle Sharpmaker where you just slowly run the serrated edge down the corner. I guess Nick doesn't know that trick? Though the Sharpmaker video does show how to do it. salby sal - Product Review/Feedback
Hi Jason, The Duckfoot as been replaced by a cbn version that is already in-house. seeking a name. Also have a 30 degree fixture for both also already in house. salby sal - Product Review/Feedback
Hi Ryan, We use a lot of VG-10. Probably Takefu's biggest customer in that alloy. When I was speaking with the President of Takefu some years ago, he said he believed that Cobalt enhances the properties of most of the alloys in the mix. I thought to take a chance on his personal experience. Sometimes the opinions of some with experience is worth listening to. I also wanted a US madby sal - General
Hi Ryan, We created SPY27 because we felt the Cobalt based ally would have a characteristic of getting very sharp. Sticky sharp. So you may want to play with a finer grit to bring out the edge. salby sal - General
I don't have any direct information on Fiskars currently, but I do know a bit about dealing with China. The first thing to consider is that the Chinese Yuan is valued at 6/1 to the US Dollar. This means that when my dollar crosses the Chinese border, it is now worth 6 Dollars. There are many that say this is an "Intentionally reduced value", which they say that the Chinese aby sal - General
Hey Jason, Have you had a chance to play with Shawn's knife yet? salby sal - General
Thanx Jason, The edge Junky's on the Spyderco forum have been nagging me for a long time to consider a more performance oriented model(s) as opposed to the "general knife user" market. This model is kind of an experiment. I asked the maker to make the grind as high as he can and to make the edge as thin as possible. I'd like to thank all involved for making this phorum happen. It is appreciated. Cliff will be missed, but his past wisdom will endure. Perhaps sometime in the future, we can capture some of that wisdom in an Archive of sorts? salby sal - General
