Machete videos on the Web tend to be depressing and not particularly useful to the viewer. The following problems are typical:
- there is enthusiasm but not a lot of thought
- factory edge bevels are left unsharpened, even unapexed
- no attempt has been made to remove overheated steel
- there is no discussion of edge geometry or its effects
- there is little or no discussion of sharpness
- there is no comparative work, or the comparison is of questionable value due to the points above
- a person whacks randomly at brush or beavers away at a log, accomplishing little, except maybe some edge damage (remember that these are raw and probably overheated factory edges)
- the machete is declared good or bad (these are often product reviews) based on sketchy work that cannot support either conclusion
- the viewer does not learn much about the machete(s) shown, or cutting tools in general, or anything.
I could give examples of this but that is not the purpose of this thread.
Below I am going to post links to some videos that rise above this far enough to be informative or interesting somehow.
