Sane machete videos

Machete videos on the Web tend to be depressing and not particularly useful to the viewer. The following problems are typical:

- there is enthusiasm but not a lot of thought
- factory edge bevels are left unsharpened, even unapexed
- no attempt has been made to remove overheated steel
- there is no discussion of edge geometry or its effects
- there is little or no discussion of sharpness
- there is no comparative work, or the comparison is of questionable value due to the points above
- a person whacks randomly at brush or beavers away at a log, accomplishing little, except maybe some edge damage (remember that these are raw and probably overheated factory edges)
- the machete is declared good or bad (these are often product reviews) based on sketchy work that cannot support either conclusion
- the viewer does not learn much about the machete(s) shown, or cutting tools in general, or anything.

I could give examples of this but that is not the purpose of this thread.

Below I am going to post links to some videos that rise above this far enough to be informative or interesting somehow.

From YouTube user "Knives and Axes TH"
(Thai language)

Measurements and discussion of three Martindale machetes:
- Paratrooper (#432W)
- Golok (#2)
- a Latin pattern (#460)

Strengths of the video:
- Spine thickness measurements near tip and heel showing distal taper (this was the information I was actually looking for...hooray)
- Basic hardness testing with files

I wish that translated closed captioning were available for this video. Fortunately the video is shot in such a fashion that useful information is conveyed regardless.

From YouTube user "Drwal Pingwin"
(Polish language)

Some chopping with a 22in Ontario machete.

Strengths of the video:
- Hits are generally intentional, not thoughtless
- Hits are staggered
- Effort is made to clear chips
- Machete acts like it has been sharpened
