Okay no worries, just wanted to ask. It’s a good idea, I think.

Primarily, what needs to be changed and done to convert AVE's experiment into something that could be published under peer review.
Just to be clear, is that an open question or are you saying that you’re going to explain that later on?
I may have some input on the subject, but if your intent is to make a series of posts, an actual breakdown and explanation, then I’d h

For squirrels and rabbits it’s a toss up between a stock Remington 870 12 gage and a Marlin 60 22 LR.
The choice between shotgun and .22 for small game is an interesting one. Usually for me it depends on how badly I don’t want to miss and if they’re likely to be moving quickly.
For about 7 or 8 years, my grandpa and uncle and I would do a local rabbit hunting tournament in the wint

Last weekend I took some time to get my guns ready for the fall hunting season. For deer and squirrels specifically. This made me want to start a thread on the topic of guns for hunting. Their setup, results of zeroing and practicing with them in the preseason, and the logical arguments for the setups, cartridges, etc. that justify (or seek to justify) their uses.
Let’s use this thread to dis

Not that I could find, and it took a lot of digging just to find the steel type.
I think their Ono hatchet design is pretty interesting too, it looks similar to cKc’s medium hatchet.

Jason I really like those. I bought one 5 or 6 years ago after seeing Cliff use one, like you said. They’re really solid little knives, I really like the handle especially.

I’ve seen these on their site before. Sharpening Supplies is where I buy about 75% of the sharpening equipment I have, I like their customer service and their website is decent too. Plus they’re based in Wisconsin, like me.
I considered buying those but I passed, I just think the grit finish is likely to be too high for me, for the way I typically use and sharpen knives.
That being said,

2400 is good stuff for the magnum revolver cartridges, my uncle uses it quite a lot for both the .357 and .44 Mags. Usually, for the absolute highest velocities in combination with best accuracy, H110 is king, but 2400 is very close. And it’s a little more forgiving to work with, H110 has a very narrow window for safe and effective charge weights.
And yeah, if you’re looking for mid-range or

That’s next on my list. Meaning a revolver of some sort. I nearly jumped on a 44 Mag Super Blackhawk but the deal was a little too good. I’m looking for a long range handgun, 50 yards+. That SBH would have done quite well. With hand loading it I can make it as comfortable or effective as I want. I passed as the price was actually suspicious.
The SBH is one of the guns that, unf

Sal, why would the cobalt give the steel that kind of property or ability, and how much sharper do you mean?
My limited understanding of what cobalt would do for a knife like this is that, in high enough quantities in the alloy, it would help prevent the steel from being burnt during post-HT processing.
I say that because it’s generally used in HSS Alloys in industry, it’s included in the

Hey interesting stuff Me2, somehow I missed this post. I have nearly everything I’ll need for reloading the .44 Mag after finally locating some very good powder last week. Right now I just have to keep an eye out for primers, otherwise I’ve got the rest.

Does the sheath itself provide retention? Since it can be unclipped (nice feature) from its belt loop / snap-strap I assume so, but it is hard to be sure from photos.
Not really. There’s some friction between the rubber handle and the sheath material when the knife is all the way down into the sheath, and the blade weighs enough to make it plenty secure for walking around, but for

Hadn’t heard of this, it’s interesting though. But I’ve been missing having an FRN Native since I gave mine to Cliff several years ago, so I ordered one of them in the SPY-27 steel. I doubt I’ll be able to tell any significant difference between it and S30V or other things in that class of materials, especially since I have almost exclusively gone to diamonds for apexing and light shaping, but it

Are Cliffs reviews still available on the old site? The two best/most influential for me were the ones on Alvins Paring knife and Cliffs mild steel tension bar knife.
That link is to the main page on Cliff’s site, everything I’ve checked is still up and viewable.
For me I think one of his best innovations was the way he started to look at how PSI changes the way various shar

I personally prefer thinner knives as over the long span regrinding and Sharpening is less work to keep the original cutting profile
That’s definitely true in the sense that you can keep grinding just the edge bevel and it won’t thicken as quickly as the Fallkniven/Hattori profile will, no doubt.
For these, I really have to regularly maintain the primary grind. Basi

For a while now I’ve been considering buying one of these knives, Fallkniven’s SK2 Embla. The SK2 has a number of features or design elements that I find valuable, it’s made by Hattori in Japan which I really highly value, and I happen to think the elegant simplicity, very high fit/finish quality, and high quality materials combine to make it one of the best-looking knives I’ve seen.

Last winter I ordered a few larger knives as well as a saw, with the aim of using them for woodwork outdoors. Camping, that sort of thing. Processing wood for fires, making shelters, etc.
One of the knives is a Silky Saws brand Nata, or Japanese heavy machete. When I ordered it, I ordered the 240mm blade length with the chisel grind, but I ended up receiving the double-beveled model. I contem

Of all the production knives I’ve used with high-carbide stainless, I think VG-10 has been the most pleasant to use. Not quite as slow to grind as S30V, but still shows some improvement over stuff like 1095, 420HC, or even AUS-8A when I finish them all on the DMT Fine plate.

That, Older Spice, in addition to the likely scenario of all other major device brands doing the same thing shortly. This kind of “think of the children” crap is almost always a cover story for what they’re doing. You watch, this will end up being used as a political weapon and a de facto social credit score system, all other cloud storage will, too. Keep your stuff proprietary and actually physi
