The Case XX640: Case XX640 looks like the apparently-now-discontinued Dexter-Russell 10 (SKU 5301, which helps somewhat in searches): Dexter-Russell 10 (one vendor) Dexter-Russell 10 (another vendor) with different markings and the addition of forward serrations. If anyone has up to date contact information for Scott Livesey (of Old Sailor's Knives) please contact me via PM. I would like to sneak something onto his custom queue if he is still taking orders. The email address listed for him on the old forum didn't work when I tried it. The one listed on the new forum is not visible to me. Thanks.by alkali - General

Quotejasonstone20 hahaha, these are funny. I always have fun trying to understand the instructions from China, written is a weird English. Product descriptions sometimes contain amusing things. I suspect at least some of these result from writers of ad/catalog copy getting bored and needing more of a creative outlet than their work nominally provides. I am clearing out some old bookmarks. I will post things here as I run into them.by alkali - General
QuoteMr.Wizard FYI: the security certificate for oldforum.beyondt01micron.com expired yesterday. Quotejasonstone20 Yeah, looks like Cold Steel is chasing trends. That may be so. From a thread on T0.1M: QuoteCliff Stamp I can appreciate someone who sees a market and exploits it, it is a basic tenant of sales, you make what people will buy. However I can appreciate even more someone who creates a market by making a product which shows people something which is better than they eveby alkali - General

QuoteWilliam Typar is strong for its mass but for the record, it does not weld in the food sealer in a way that is useful i.e. the material is weak at the weld. If it is similar to Tyvek that certainly makes sense. Reducing the weird cotton-candy structure to plain old bulk plastic seems like it should let the magic out. The Cold Steel Republic sure looks as if it is intended to compete directly with the stainless ESEE 4: Cold Steel Republic ESEE 4 The Republic: - costs significantly more (rough numbers: $270 vs. $213 MSRP, and $220 vs. $150 on BladeHQ) - presumably comes with a Cold-Steel-type warranty rather than an ESEE-type warranty, with all that entails. Is it possible for me to link to a YT video here without ending up with a miniature viewer embedded in the post? The miniature viewer is fine sometimes, but is not desirable when I want to include a link to a YT video as a reference rather than as a central feature of a post. Well that's certainly interesting. Thanks for posting here. Is the material from Harcane? (mfg link, datasheet link) In the image on the Spyderco site (link) the first and third holes appear elongated. Is this done to accommodate some unit-to-unit variation in part size after firing? The first large outdoor knife I ever used (well...used effectively) was an Ontario 18". Good inexpensive and durable tool. I knew ahead of time that heavy machete patterns were prone to overpenetration when used with excessive enthusiasm. And yet I still managed on one occasion to get that machete stuck hard enough in the end of a firewood round that it took me twenty minutes to get it ouby alkali - New Knives, and New to You Knives
