[Not a review] Morakniv Companion Fishing Fillet 090 - some measurements

Manufacturer page

A while back I picked one of these up. I was not quite sure what I was going to get, though, as I was not able to find detailed blade dimensions (either manufacturer specs or vendor/user measurements) online.

So - I am posting some measurements and observations below.

---

The blade does in fact have a full-height flat grind (FFG). It is not merely an edge bevel on thin flat stock.

The shoulders between the primary grind and spine are rounded.
The spine and shoulders are polished.

Blade length, measured in a straight line from where the spine meets the handle to the absolute tip, is 85mm.

Blade length, measured in a straight line from where the edge meets the handle to the absolute tip, is 90mm. (This must be where the blade length specification on the manufacturer page comes from. The manufacturer appears to do the same thing with the blade length specification on the Companion S page.)

---

There is significant distal taper.

Spine thicknesses:
0.050" +/- 0.001" immediately in front of the handle
0.031" +/- 0.001" at a distance of 5mm from the absolute tip

---

Edge bevel heights below are measured in the blade symmetry plane and perpendicular to the edge.

Edge bevel angle uncertainties below are calculated based on the assumption that the edge bevel thickness and height uncertainties are independent of one another (not correlated).

At a point immediately in front of the handle the edge bevel is:
0.016" +/- 0.001" thick
0.029" +/- 0.003" high
corresponding to an angle of:
15.4 +/- 1.8 degrees per side

At a point 30mm (measured along the edge) forward of the handle the edge bevel is:
0.018" +/- 0.001" thick
0.035" +/- 0.003" high
corresponding to an angle of:
14.4 +/- 1.4 degrees per side

---

Weights:
knife 61g
sheath 33g
knife and sheath combined 94g

The sheath is interchangeable with, and apparently identical to, the Companion S sheath.

---

Hopefully this is helpful to someone.

The specs and weight sound good

It is very similar to. My nz made victory rabbit knife I use in fishing. Will find a link and share it

A link to the Victory catalog was ultimately posted here. Thank you cKc.

Incidentally:

On page 43 (PDF page 22) of the Victory Knives 2020 catalog there is an image of a commercial diver holding what looks like a hydraulically-powered underwater chainsaw.

Which is, in fact, what it is. They exist:

Manufacturer website

The first application listed by the manufacturer is "bridge pilings".
